Game Brainstorm

Since I'm making a game based around the idea of collecting, I based my brainstorming around that since most games have some collecting element around them.

A meme about Video game and items taken from here

The first game is Sims 3, the Sims is base around the idea of collecting items to stay alive and to profit. Your Sim collect food to survive, you collect money to buy new object and etc. I bring up Sims 3 in peculiar because it's the sims' game I've played the most, but base on my play through on Sims 4 both game do have a gem, metal and bug collecting skills, which allows the player's Sims to collect rarer items. Now while a Sims style game may be out of my skill, it's more goofy yet relaxing game play may not be. Learn More about Sims 3

The second game is Bioshock 2, Bioshock 1 had the player collect 'Adam' a valuable yet rare currency that improve the player and was only collectible through a morality system with the little sisters. However Bioshock 2 allowed the player to collect 'Adam' by adopting a little sister, bring the little sister to a corpse and protect them while fighting off a horde of enemies. While the adopting system wasn't great, I believe a few changes could make it into a more enjoyable experience as the idea of being able to collect 'Adam' by adoption was never explored again and I think has potential. Learn more about Bioshock 2

The third game is Fallout new Vegas, New Vegas used it setting, being set in a post-apocalyptic world to limit resources and so the player has to use ammo sparely. New Vegas also has the player mange their inventory as the player has not only one set of currency to keep track of but also different types of ammo like amour-piecing as well. This makes combat more engaging as the if the player not careful, they can run out of ammo and be quickly kill. I think a combat style similar where the player has to be careful, pick when to engage enemies and how to so, is great. I would like to include this into my game somehow. Learn more about Fallout New Vegas.

The forth game is Terraria, I know this a 2D game but I really wanted to talk about it because of one aspect: It's bosses. Terraria's bosses can appear to the player at any level and if the player is unprepared they will die. So the player is encourage to become stronger in order to defeat these bosses but is never outright told by the game to defeat said bosses. I think this a great way to introduce a boss to a player plus with Terraria having different equipment, weapons and skills it give the player more ways to defeat said bosses. Learn more about Terraria

Unity tutortial 07

Another week, another unity tutorial this time I'm not following along with Jimmy Vegas' tutorial series and instead following another series of tutorial to learn how to put an inventory in my game ! In particular, this video  Unity Inventory UI Tutorial  which is a 3d inventory ! Thank god, every fucking tutorial I looked for inventory were for 2d games, not 3d. I did find a blog as well but when I did try to follow along, it didn't go so well so I decide to ditch that and found a 5 minute video. Working on my inventory, yes I'm using my JV tutorial world and turned off fade in, Screen shot taken by me. Now it's confession time and I thought I would say this : I miss Jimmy Vegas. Yeah his tutorial weren't great but some of these tutorial go really fast and you just have no idea what is going on. That's why for my next tutorial I did Jimmy Vegas RPG tutorial #024 Boss Ai  ! Unfortunately Jimmy's Video is part of a series and I don't really w...

Unity Free Tutorials

Hello and welcome to my blog ! With My Non-swinging Axe.  This week I'm looking at unity tutorials for my game, that totally weren't sent by my mate Oisin, cheers Oisin !  To see if they can help my game. The first one is "PATROL AI WITH UNITY AND C#"   Jesus, someone needs to calm down with the CapLk.  A handy video that teaches a little bit of different coding but with little explanation of what the code does but personally I recommend muting the video and just because his voice is annoying, I'm half deaf and his voice was giving a headache ! So after doing the tutorial I came across a problem, the script doesn't seem to be working, there's supposed to be a speed box but as you can see there is none, even after I tried to listen to the video I couldn't get it to work. For some reason, the script not coming up right, screen shot taken by me. Moving onto the next tutorial, "How to make Doors in Unity"   yes I'm serious.  This tut...

Unity tutorial 06: Thanks Google and Unity!

FINALLY I'm done this unity tutorial ! Oh my god you have know idea how long this took me. First Chrome decided not to work, like at all, I don't know since it wasn't my wi-fi or laptop since Firefox work fine for me, so why ? No idea. Cheers Google ! Screenshot taken by me. Oh and the Unity video froze again , then it crashed. I feel you buddy, screenshot taken by me. So how did the tutorial go ? Pretty good actually, once unity stopped messing me around, I actually didn't have a bad time. I guess my only problem is this error which I can't figure for the life of me what it's on about: Null Reference ? What you on about Unity ? Screenshot taken by me. Seriously Unity telling me Null Reference is like telling me my Dad wants me, I've no clue what you're talking about. Anywho apart from this error, I feel like this was the most useful tutorial so far, the others were great for getting back into things while learning a few new tricks but...
