Project update time! So this week I've been working hard on the axe side of things, I wanted allow the player to be able to pick up the axe and swing it. However I learnt something that I hope wasn't true but sadly is, You can't reused scripts!! I tried to reused the Axe Swing script from jimmy Vegas and it work, but when I recreated it, it did work !
Unity you picky bastard you.

Oh yeah I also made a building too, screen shot taken by Me. |
I also work on taking the axe out of the wall but had to focus on the ray-casting which was a pain in the ass because I completely forgot about it and had to go back to work on it. Honestly I've spent more then 3 hours working on this and while I'm proud of what I've done so far, I also sad because I really wanted to get to the first playable stage of the game but haven't be able to, Hell I still haven't gotten to the player able to take the damn axe out of the damn wall yet.

This screen shot of my game doesn't make happy, it makes me angry, taken by me. |
Overall while I have work hard I also feel there's a lot more work to do, Is my game near first playable ? No, no way in hell it is, is it getting there ? Yes, It is. I've feel confident in saying that it's getting there and hopefully it will be there before next week.
Hi Sarah!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear that you've been struggling a bit with your game development. I too have struggled a lot and it isn't easy at all using this program. I was lucky enough to find a suitable tutorial that completed gave me the complete mechanics and starting points to my game. If I was to give any suggestions, I'd say try looking at multiple similar tutorials on what you want to achieve (if you haven't already) as I found that doing this helps you to understand the functionality of unity and doing this also helps you to achieve your goal because you're not following somebody else's steps, you're doing it from your own knowledge. This could even help you fix errors that might occur, like in the scripting (even though I don't think any of us fully understand how to write that code).
Hopefully, my advice helps as I know it really helped me during the whole process. Good luck!

Hey Sarah,
ReplyDeleteI completely understand how you feel about Unity. One minute my C# scripts are fine, and then for no reason, they all stop working and I have no idea why, or how to fix them! Nightmares.
Are you making all of your scenery yourself? Fair play! If it's too time consuming, have you considered downloading some free asset packs from the Unity Store? I found loads of free stuff by just scrolling through the free section. Even if you only find one or two things that suit your game genre and aesthetic, it may save a bit of time!
All the best!

Hey Sarah,
ReplyDeleteSeems like everyone is having a bit of trouble with unity so do not worry you are not the only one so far your game looks really good I really like that you used the skills you already knew and learned form the Jimmy Vegas tutorials which is really good your axe looks good and glad to hear it is working. Your background and buildings also look really good I also like the theme you are going for with your game it gives me spooky vibes which I like. If you feel like you are taking on too much for your game maybe write out a list of the most important aspects in your game and start of with them and add the rest in if you have time but overall it looks like you are doing really well and your game is coming along anyway I will leave it there hope to read more about your game.
