Game Design Document

Hello ! Today I'm gonna talk about my Game Design Document, I used Dundoc to create my Game Design Document. I'm not fully ready yet, I still need to think about some elements but here is My Game Design Document!

Story:

Wetwood shopping center was a popular shopping center, selling many great products and being great place to hang out with friends. However after few years of success, Wetwood started to loose profits and this led to owners of Wetwood coming up with an idea. After a while, profits began to increase for the shopping center but people began to be afraid of the place, many of the shoppers acted strange, they would stay in the center. becoming angry when a product they want wasn't and even used violence.

Eventually only these shoppers continued to shop at the center as many people were afraid to even enter the center and this led to Wetwood closing down the center to save the company's image.

After a few years, You the player find the abandon center and become trapped inside. now you must escaped the center and fight off the crazy shoppers.

Characters:

the Player:
The player is trap in the abandon shopping center that is planned to be demolish. After being trapped, the player must fight his/her/their way out.
Shoppers:
Shoppers are strange creature, while aware of the player they are also unaware that the shopping centre is now closed down. They usually wandering, looking around a shop with bags of items or attacking registers. They usually lash out with anger.
Section Red Boss, Chief Security:
The chief of security love the Wetwood shopping centre, in fact he loved it so much that after it closed down, he broke in just to watch over the place ! He's not to happy to found someone after breaking his centre.
Car-park Boss, The loyal Wife:
marriage is a difficult thing, for this wife that's no true-er statement! The Loyal wife's husband was addicted to the centre so much so that when the centre closed he disappear ! The loyal wife decided to look for him and went to the only place she thought he could be, Wetwood. However She became trapped and try to escaped via the car pack but fails. It's unknown how long she has been trapped but one thing is known, she's still looking for her husband.
Section Blue Boss, Fast-food manager:
The Manager only had one thing he was proud of, his job. The manager loved his job, he love serving the people, the power and of courage the money. Now that's all gone or so everyone thinks but to the Manager this is just a challenge ! He wants to show them all that he's the best manager in the world and no one is gonna stop him!
Section Green Boss, The granny:
Old age it's a terrible thing, for the granny going to the centre, walking around the less crowded centre was perfect for her and now it's even less crowded ! She's knows that her time is up but to see all the special deals all puts a smiles on her face and she won't let anyone take that away from her!

Environment/Level:

The game is set in a abandon shopping centre. The centre itself is falling apart and on the verge on collapse. Many of the stores are closed, forced open or broken into. The centre is filled with dead trees, tiles broken, wire hanging out of the wall and is generally unsafe. It's heavily based off Blanchardstown shopping Centre:

Game play:

The game is a first person, action adventure game. The game combat is melee, the player will only have they're fist as first and must find weapons to kill enemies quickly.

User interface and Controls:

Standard contols. No idea how the interface will look.

  1. Hello Sarah, I just read through your game idea and I must say it is a very good idea you have put forward. I enjoyed reading about all of the history of your game's world and how it became the state it is now currently. I am intrigued to learn more about it should I get the opportunity to play the game myself. I'm not sure I entirely understand the bosses in this game. You mention how they are found in different colored locations around the shopping centre, but can the player fight them in any order they so desire? Or does the player need to defeat a certain boss in one area before they can go off to fight the others? One thing to improve the game is vary the shoppers in the game. I reckon if certain shoppers had different strategies to them, then there would be some goo challenge for the player and may force them to act creative in combat against these foes. Overall this game is really promising and I look forward to future developments.

  2. Hi Sarah
I just read through your game design document and have to say I like your concept , especially the concept. I also love the levels of boss especially the level four one (green section) with the the granny as i found it funny. I was wondering are you using a particular centre for the layout design or are you just making it from scratch. Either way I found this game concept quite interesting and cant wait to see how it turns out. Best of look developing it in the future.

Unity tutortial 07

Another week, another unity tutorial this time I'm not following along with Jimmy Vegas' tutorial series and instead following another series of tutorial to learn how to put an inventory in my game ! In particular, this video  Unity Inventory UI Tutorial  which is a 3d inventory ! Thank god, every fucking tutorial I looked for inventory were for 2d games, not 3d. I did find a blog as well but when I did try to follow along, it didn't go so well so I decide to ditch that and found a 5 minute video. Working on my inventory, yes I'm using my JV tutorial world and turned off fade in, Screen shot taken by me. Now it's confession time and I thought I would say this : I miss Jimmy Vegas. Yeah his tutorial weren't great but some of these tutorial go really fast and you just have no idea what is going on. That's why for my next tutorial I did Jimmy Vegas RPG tutorial #024 Boss Ai  ! Unfortunately Jimmy's Video is part of a series and I don't really w...

First Playable

Project update time! So this week I've been working hard on the axe side of things, I wanted allow the player to be able to pick up the axe and swing it. However I learnt something that I hope wasn't true but sadly is, You can't reused scripts!! I tried to reused the Axe Swing script from jimmy Vegas and it work, but when I recreated it, it did work ! Unity you picky bastard you. Oh yeah I also made a building too, screen shot taken by Me. I also work on taking the axe out of the wall but had to focus on the ray-casting which was a pain in the ass because I completely forgot about it and had to go back to work on it. Honestly I've spent more then 3 hours working on this and while I'm proud of what I've done so far, I also sad because I really wanted to get to the first playable stage of the game but haven't be able to, Hell I still haven't gotten to the player able to take the damn axe out of the damn wall yet. This screen shot of my game does...

Unity Free Tutorials

Hello and welcome to my blog ! With My Non-swinging Axe.  This week I'm looking at unity tutorials for my game, that totally weren't sent by my mate Oisin, cheers Oisin !  To see if they can help my game. The first one is "PATROL AI WITH UNITY AND C#"   Jesus, someone needs to calm down with the CapLk.  A handy video that teaches a little bit of different coding but with little explanation of what the code does but personally I recommend muting the video and just because his voice is annoying, I'm half deaf and his voice was giving a headache ! So after doing the tutorial I came across a problem, the script doesn't seem to be working, there's supposed to be a speed box but as you can see there is none, even after I tried to listen to the video I couldn't get it to work. For some reason, the script not coming up right, screen shot taken by me. Moving onto the next tutorial, "How to make Doors in Unity"   yes I'm serious.  This tut...
